| Also known as deep water running or aquajogging, this is a non weight-bearing activity that consists of performing a running motion in the deep end of a swimming pool. The purpose is to optimize cardiovascular and muscular conditioning, while minimizing joint, bone, muscular, tendon and ligament stress. The benefits of aquarunning are similar to that of land running; however, there is added resistance in the water, and it is impact-free. A flotation device designed for aquarunning is worn around the waist, so the head is held comfortably above water, and running form and posture will closely resemble movement patterns seen with land running. |
